Have you washed in a washing machine? It should be perfectly safe.

If that hasn't worked take advantage of the dry weather and lay it flat outside.
Put rubber gloves on and sponge it firmly on both sides with a diluted bleach solution.

Allow to dry in the sun.

If it still isn't properly clean - clean as above but use a biological washing powder disolved with half a cup of baking soda. You cut try gentle scrubbing with a nail brush.
Allow to dry naturally.

hi ethel

yes ive put it in the washing machine a couple of times on the wash stated on the lable its not like what you can just wash over it looks like its right in it

Try the bleach solution.

I found this site that has some pretty scary cleaning ideas for shower curtains but might be worth a try. I couldn't live with a manky shower curtain - especially when it's not 'my' dirt.

exactly,i kinda feel not clean when i get out

Shower curtains are generally vynil plastic or plastic-coated. What you have almost certainly got is age degradation of the plastic (the plasiciser is an ingredient of vynil which can leach out over time, and/or be degraded by chemical attack (soap/hair dye ingredients) and/or sunlight - discolourisation is the result.

Bleaching (another major chemical attack) MIGHT work to whiten it, but will be detrimental to the fabric. Get a new one - and, after every shower use, rinse the curtain down with the shower, don't just leave the suds or whatever to dry - prevention is better than cure!.

as i said i moved to this house and it was already here so its not me that has not looked after it,but as i said they are 40/50 to buy new and while im getting the money together i just wanted it to look abit more respectable.its not the standard size its 210cm hence the price but thanks for your answer
If it's a hard water area might it be limescale? I wonder if vinegar or descaler would help?
