I have two ethernet points in my office. One is attached to my desktop PC and the other to an internet-based telephone. I want to add another internet telephone extension. Do I need another ethernet point, or can an existing one be 'split' into two handsets? If it can, what hardware do I need to achieve this?

Not an expert but unless you can connect it to the PC it seems to me that you'll need a third LAN port to plug into. Which means that you'd either need to run a further cable from an existing hub/router or plug a new one into one of the existing ports.
