Personally I'm against such bans, not because there isn't a battle to fought against repressive forms of Islam of which things like the burqa are ostentatious symbols, but because it;s the wrong terrain to fight - we're marching uphill in mud. (Remember Waterloo?). As is evident from the two threads on AB and the legal appeals in France, it's given the...

/// Sp - what would we do without a habitual poster like you? ///

Yes an avid supporter of the Islamic faith, not quite the same support shown for the Christian faith though, which is hard to understand really, because I can never remember Christians throwing homosexuals off tall buildings.

What you saw was not an isolated incident, I have seen similar, many times in the Middle East.

I would nevr presume to speak for sp, but I would suggest that he is less an 'avid supporter of the Muslim faith', but rather a supporter of the rights of Muslims not to be demonised by Westerners who are determined, against any reasonable evidence, that they are trying to take over the world.

Any support sp might offer is not based on the actions of extremists, any more than mine is, and not supporting Christianity is likewise not connected to something they don't do.

Talbot is making his point based on what he saw, not what you saw. Your sight of the same situation does not alter the point I made - which is that the 'oppression' Talbot saw is based on his western attitude towards another culture, and it may simply not be valid.
ladybirder - //Good post by Birdie @ 02.19 today. I would like to hear your reply to it Andy if you have one? Thanks//

Because you made your request with appropriate courtesy, I am of course delighted to respond.

I think post is interesting, but I do not believe that Muslims try and 'take over countries and install Sharia law'.

If that was the case, there are more than enough Muslims certainly to have overrun our tiny island and made it a Muslim 'state' - but this has not happened.

It is my belief that this is because the notion that Islam is a hostile and would-be dominant faith is simply not true.
jambutty - //a-h I knew you would paste and copy my post and I also knew that I wouldn't read it and I haven't, nor will I read any others addressed to me from you. //

I am sorry to read that - it means that we are not able to exchange viewpoints and debate issues, and see what each other thinks, and why.

Never mind, there are plenty of others on here for me to discuss things with. You won't be the first, or the last.
It's obviously a VERY quiet period in the music industry right now......

That is because you either don't understand Islam or don't want to. Nor do you study history. I suspect that you don't want to understand Islam because for you to do so would be so mentally devastating for your left-wing, liberal viewpoint that you'd have difficulty recovering from such a mental hammer-blow. Once you learn that the very people you are defending consider you to be a 'kafir' (https://is.gd/prU85x), it's hard to reconcile.

Despite your weak assertion that you “... do not believe...” that Islam is spread at the point of a sword – or in these technological times – down the barrel of a gun, the fact is that Islam does precisely this. It has done so since its inception. It has always tried to ingratiate itself with other religions and cultures, posing as a benign theology – exactly as Mohammed himself instructed in the Koran. Then, when the time is right and numbers stack up, the true Islam is revealed and the barbaric nature is exposed, resulting in the host nation being Islamisised and Sharia law evoked.

The fact that you “... do not believe...” that this is demonstrably provable leads me to only one logical conclusion – you are either delusional or you are a muslim indulging in taqiyya.

I'm amazed that birdie has the patience to dignify such a stupid statement with an answer.

I am sure that the France and Belgium authorities in particular will be very reassured that they shouldn't be too hard on themselves and not feel too threatened despite having a similar population.

I am amazed on a daily basis that the stupidity of some posts receive answers, but that is how debate works.

If I was to comment every time I saw a stupid comment on the AB, I would never get anything done!

But, more importantly, one person's 'stupid' is another person's interesting and valid, and that is why debate works as it does.

Setting up as an 'expert' and then demeaning the views of others who disagree is not a good way to exchange opinions or knowledge. Fortunately, there are only a very small number on here who adopt such a stance, and they can be safely steered around.
Indeed.
