Half way up a golfers knees----possibly Argyll (Plus fours + Argyll socks)

I can't finish my thoughts for the last one

Mid (Ernie)Els + a word for knees = Middles+ but I can only think of Middlesbrough and Middlesex. Are there any others?

Thanks for your help everybody,I think the golfer one might be Putney.
A long shot for 3. There is a USA golfer called Chris KIRK. Patellas = kneecaps, half of which is ELLA. Kirkella is in East Yorkshire. Well I did say it was a long shot.
