Well, Argie, thank you for that, that was a strange one. But in case you were one of the nationalities mentioned I won't make a joke about it at this time of night in case we start a war!

Good Luck, HSL, and no, I am not a transatlantic cousin. In fact, I am a Lancastrian and I had never come across that word before I did the crossword. According to Chambers, its origin is obscure! I am not surprised!

After my last response I suddenly realised that subconsciously when I said "in case we start a war" your 'handle' made me think you might have been fighting on the side of the Islas Malvinas, especially as I spelt it "Argie" instead of Argee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
