Could someone tell me if there is something lacking in my 4 mth old puppy's diet that causes him to chew on everything. Someone told me that salt was lacking, but I have never heard that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

puppies chew because they are teething, same as babies do. if you provide him with lots of intersting chews and toys to chew on your belongings should be safe.

worked for me.

Right now he is loosing his pup teeth and the adult teeth are coming in...He needs to chew, if he doesn't he will more than likely have dental troubles in the future. I let my dog have Kong toys stuffed with treats and even her kibble, I took a can of her food and put a teaspoon inside after putting her kibble in it and froze it, she would chew it and the cold felt good on her teeth, also ice cubes they usually like also and it won't hurt them, you can heavily dilute some chicken broth with water and freeze some chicken cubes for them. I got a rope and soaked it in water and froze it also, for her to chew on. Get diff kinds of chews, watch out for rawhide it will not digest if eaten in big chunks and it will stop up your puppy. Anything new you give your pup to chew on SUPERVISE them, see how they react with it, don't let them bite off too much. Never leave them alone with a new chew. You have to train them to know the wrong things to chew on, and redirect them to the right thing.. after the fact reprimands don't work. Good luck...

Mine always have pigs ears and marrowbones, like drgnrdr said don't leave them unsupervised with them at first.

Please don't give salt to a dog - it is not necessary in their diet.

Dogs also chew out of boredom. Ensure your pup has plenty of proper dog chews to chew on and plenty of toys to play with!
