Hi all! I'm not sure what topic to put this in so if this is wrong one please point me in right direction :o)

Next Friday my daughter has a fancy dress competition at her school. They have to come dressed as any musical production. Well I'm just totally stuck for ideas! All I keep thinking is Annie! But don't really want to be paying out alot of money (if any at all) to get a red haired wig etc..
Anybody any ideas please? We have drawn a total blank here.
She's 8 yrs old btw.

Thanx in advance :o)

Hi Wingnut - how about a Wizard of Oz character - tin foil for tin man or sack for the scarecrow and go from there.
Cats? all in black with whiskers and a tail, really easy one.

aha! excellent replies! I think I must be having a mind block because I just couldn't think of anything! Thanx you 2 :o)

Oh, i was going to say 'Cats', too!

I dressed up as a cat when i was about 11 for a fancy dress thing. Won first prize!

The thing that clinched it for me was the make-up on my face... it was so good i scared myself when i looked in the mirror.

Hmmm they havent made things easy have they what about the phantom of the opera just buy one of those white face masks and cut it into the right shape. Or the lion king musical could be done with face paints and a mane of some description.
If she has any pink things you could try dressing her up as one of the girls from grease (or if you have a leather jacket you could slick her hair back and she could be one of the boys).

Do they have to represent the musicals title with their outfit or can they be a character from a musical?

If its the latter, a chimney sweep from Mary Poppins might be easy enough. Your daughter might have trouble with the Dick van Dyke version of cockney though.

The letter just says any musical production, so I guess it can be a character of a musical or something that represents the title of the musical.

Thanx for your suggestions everyone, it's made me feel so much better about what sort of thing to do, we couldn't think of anything and I didn't want her turning up next week with nothing!!

Thanx, you lot are the best :o)

My sister could not be bothered to dress her daughter up for fancy dress when the school had a fancy dress party from musicals. She dressed her as a ray of sunshine from the sound of music and she won because it was so ''original''.
How about dressing her up as Sandy from Grease, full skirt, ankle socks and hair in a ponytail. Just love that film.

Oh brilliant unrulie! Thanx for going to the trouble, you star you! Plenty of ideas there cheers! :o)
my pleasure. i tried to get a proper pic of Sandy but couldn't find any that i wanted. This site's great though with loads of different ideas. let us know what you decide to do. x
Get a copy of Jane Asher's Fancy Dress book from the library, there are some easy ones to copy in there. I copied the Teddy Bears Picnic for my daughter although I don't know if it is a musical production ! Good luck.
Make an outfit out of curtains and she could be on of the vonn trap children from the sound of music!
She could always be an urchin from Oliver! Or an animal from The Lion King.

mary poppins?

how about a satine from moulin rouge, or one of the dancers.

or maybe young cosette from les miserables.

or tallulah from bugsy malone.
