Why do some people (on here) refer to The Guardian as the Grauniad?

Because The Guardian used to be renowned for its typos.
They were notorious for typos at one time

comes from Private Eye

they used to print cuttings of typos in the good old lino-typesetting days such as :

"I heard a low bum coming from the radio" - the av P E reader wd PHL

the Grauniad used to come top of this

In a P E anagram contest I submitted Richard Ingrams = ignoramus errs
and didnt win. You wil notice there are a few letters astray but hell I pointed out to them, accuracy wasnt usually an issue for P E
PE may have problems of typos but at least they give PP his own corner! They have also been streets ahead of the competition in breaking many big stories, Cyril Smith, Robert Maxwell spring immediately to mind. It's what investigative journalism used to be like.
