Many years ago the Express published a Mensa problem which has baffled me over the years (at least 20).

A signpost has two right facing arms indicating
Aldershot 10
Southampton 30
And two left facing indicating
Swansea 26
Rugby ?
How far is it to Rugby?
I know how these usually work but I have made no headway with this one.
A good clue pointing to the logic would be great or a solution with the logic.

Well done bibblebub. I knew it had something to do with letter values and length but couldn't quite get there.

Thanks. I had tried letter values of all letters and consonant/vowel values plus/minus. So simple in the end.
