Whist job hunting for a few weeks and uploading my CV etc to various recruitment agencies etc. I always give my landline as my primary number followed by my mobile.

Where I live I have virtually no signal on any of the networks so I cant receive calls on my mobile.

I am at home most of the time but when I do go into town, suddenly I get all these voice mail messages come in. I am having to tell people not to call my mobile now, and have stopped putting my mobile number as contact details.

Fortunately I found a job very soon after applying but still I get all these voicemail messages making enquires and inviting me for interviews etc. not one of them have phoned my landline, why is this?

It winds me up!!

More pros with a mobile, usually makes people more directly reachable wherever they are and even if they can't get through then the missed call will show up wherever you are with your mobile, there is almost always a voicemail function (moreso than landlines) and the number is stored automatically if shown. It's also more private as less chance of getting...

Can you not forward uncontactable to your fixed line ?
Maybe folk think you may not be at home and so a wireless phone number is a better bet.
You could change the voice mail message on your mobile asking callers to call your landline number instead of leaving you a voice mail.
Presumably because you may be out when they call your landline so there is a better chance of contacting you on your mobile which you would have with you at all times.
No idea why people have ignored your landline but, assuming that you have an answerphone at home, don't include your mobile phone number on cvs. Alternatively write ' poor signal' next to your mobile number. Good luck with new job!
when asked if you have a mobile ... say no

It really isn't a problem now as I have a job, but one would think that if they couldn't contact you on the mobile they would at least try the landline.

I always try a landline number first, maybe I'm in the minority.
Check the coverage map and change to a network with better coverage.

CAC, we currently have the network with the best coverage.
I think landlines are becoming extinct !

It appears that way Viv, I certainly wont be getting rid of mine!
Me neither RATTER, I prefer it.
I prefer to talk to people on my landline , only like to use my mobile for short conversations or texts. So I tend not to give my mobile no. out to anyone.
congratulations on the new job Ratters
Hope all goes well

I think folk reckon that as you have a mobile, you'll take it everywhere with you (even to the loo) which is why they'll try that number first.
A friend of mine, when giving out contact details, would give his mobile number then (text only).
I am curious about what your job is - since you managed to secure a post quickly, and are still being chased as a potential candidate - so you seem to be in demand.
I believe he works in nursing homes.

I would automatically go for a mobile number unless I had been told otherwise.

Things can move quite fast in the recruitment world so getting hold of candidates quickly can be important, especially if there is competition, as if you don't fill the vacancy then you don't get the fee.

Andy, Jackdaw wasn't far off the mark, I worked in Residential Homes, usually in specialist Dementia units. The keep sacking me for reporting abuse though.

There is usually a fair bit of work around for carers, especially when they are qualified and experienced.
Well done for the job Ratter, I prefer to use my landline when I am at home.
