I have just moved to a house which has UPVC fascias. I need to fix a fly screen to the back door. How do I do this? I am wary of fixing to plastic but there is nothing else I can fix the screen to. It is a metal chain and quite heavy. I do need it as we live in the country and there are flies about. TIA

Yes, I think that's your only option. Drill a small hole (3mm drill bit) into the door frame head that I mentioned earlier. As many as you need. Use size 8 screws (that's the thickness, not the length), but make sure you use self-tapping screws. They will cut their own thread into the plastic. Door frame uPVC is fairly thick. It will take quite a load.

can't you fix/hook it over top of door from the inside ??
Bolt a rail to the wall above/either side of door and hang the chains from that.

No,murraymints I've already looked at that. The door opens inwards and wouldn't open if the flyscreen was inside. It needs to be outside but I am wary of trying to screw hooks into the plastic

jackthehat I live in a bungalow and there is no wall above the door, only fascia. Bluebottles are driving me mad
Span the opening as high up as you can.
I used sticky back Velcro strips attach one to the flyscreen and one to the plastic do this in pieces all around the door where needed
jack's idea sounds ok a pole spanning the entrance fixed to wall either side of door as high as you can

Waterslides it is a heavy metal chain curtain so velcro won't hold it. I have 2 mastiffs and they will mow down anything flimsy. The chain curtain is perfect but I am wary of ruining the new fascias
water it is a heavy metal curtain not a nylon screen ..doubt velcro will do
have you considered a screen internally ??
Drill holes for Rawlplugs and screw into them for a secure fixture.
I'm inclined to agree with Jack on this.

The top part (head) of the door-frame will be 2 or 3 inches deep. A pole spanning that, and fixed to the wall each side, would hold everything fine.

murraymints and Jack there is only wall on one side, there is a window on the other which reaches to the fascia. I can't put it inside as the door wouldn't open at all. Murraymints we had a screen door on the property when we moved in but one of the dogs just put his head through and it was ruined. Builder we don't have a wall each side. Could we drill into the plastic and fit rawlplugs? Would it hold a heavy metal chain curtain. Many thanks for all your help, I really do appreciate it

Thanks to you all for your suggestions. We are concerned that attaching the flyscreen to the door will void our Everest guarantee on the new door and windows so we have attached it to the kitchen door. That means I will have to keep food inside the flyscreen in the kitchen and not defrost meat in the utility room sink. But it's working
Simply super glue two strong plastic hooks to the fascia.
