What is the best way to remove rust stain from paint? The rust stain is dripped from a rusty security light bracket. I don't wants to paint the wall as it is a semi detached property and will require asking the neighbour to agree on the colour etc.

I don't really know the exact colour being painted by previous owner 20 yrs ago. So matching it will be challenging task.

So what is the best way to remove the rust stains?
Thanks for your replies. ..

Bleach may do it, or if you can get hold of oxalic acid and paint it on the rust every week for a few weeks, that will fade it.

I was thinking of using sand paper to try and gently sanding it off or maybe spray some WD40 oil and see if itdissolves....
It won't dissolve with WD40...it needs something (not too) acidic. Oxalic acid is a good choice, but you could try citric acid. Even brushing the stain with lemon juice could fade it. DO NOT use chlorine-based bleach.
