Hi , my daughter recently went to work away ,so decided to let her house. A young lady rented the house and was an ideal tenant. The house next door was empty ,but now run by a letting company with a not so good reputation, and is badly maintained. Some of the people they rented to were , young people who didnt go to work , . A couple like this moved in next door. Within a month my daughters tenant gave her notice to leave. She couldnt rent the house out , so decided to sell . By this time next doors front door had been smashed in ,and was boarded up . People went to view my daughters house but by now the whole front window ,of the property next door was also boarded up . My daughter has had to take her property off the market , she couldnt have people viewing her house with next looking like a slum. She has been intouch with the letting agent , to ask if anything is being done about their tenants, and are they repairing their front door and window. They say they are not bothered , the repairs should be payed for by the tenants, but the council are still paying the rent for the property, so nothing will be done . Anything legal she can do or is it just a case of wait until the renters next door are thrown out, or imprisoned.

Sorry, Absolutely nothing she can do. As the rent is being paid by the council the tenants are not likely to get thrown out. The letting company are repairing the doors and window, once it is done get the house sold asap!

Thought that may be the case. .........The letting agents say that they WONT do the repairs , saying the tenants have to pay ,as they caused the damage. Tenants wont pay, they couldnt give a damn how they live, they dont own the house. Front door boarded up , front window boarded up , two double glazed windows in the kitchen smashed, and they still manage to keep the house .
Sorry, I thought you said the letting agents were repairing the property.
Difficult situation, but as I said there is no legal solution, either to controlling the tenants or forcing them to move out. It is not actually illegal to live in a house with boarded up doors and windows for example.
I am wondering why you ask ''is it jut a case of wait until the renters next door are thrown out, or imprisoned'' As long as the rent is being paid they are not going to get thrown out, and unless they are actually doing something illegal (drug dealing ?) they are not going to be imprisoned.
If I was in the situation of your daughter I would be tempted to ask the letting company if they want to let my house out as well. At least she would have an income and the letting company could find another similar set of tenants and house the two lots together, not much of a solution I know but under the circumstance better than nothing!

Daughters house is really nice , wouldnt want to let it out to be trashed the way that next doors has been . The tenant next door is on a suspended sentence, she has a young lad living with her who is a known drug dealer, so like i say ,just sit and wait. Sad thing about the situation , she has a young baby.
there is not an awful lot you can do

you have to wait for next doors landlord to take a hand
