An Algerian-born father, separated from the English wife he married in a Muslim ceremony, has failed in his High Court bid to have his two young sons circumcised in accordance with his strict Muslim faith. The judge said that choice should be left until children are old enough to decide for themselves.

Could this lead to a change in the law? I hope so.

mushroom25, // doesn't the judiciary ruling against a cultural practice make them - and the society that supports them - institutionally racist?//

The judiciary ruled against a religious practice - not a cultural practice - hence the question about a potential change in the law.

I recall one of the junior doctor's approaching a Consultant Urologist. Both were Nigerian. The junior was asking if the Consultant would perform said procedure on his newborn, without anaesthetic. The Consultant said he was happy to oblige but Sister in charge of Theatre flatly refused permission.
Had they overridden her decision I would have made it my business to inform either the Police and/or the GMC.

Nor do they have a preference or a choice about which religion to follow. There are some things which are left to the discretion of their parents.
Exactly Sp, at least with religion they are able to change religion or become an atheist as they grow up, they cant put their foreskin back! I never conciously influenced my children on religion, I wanted them to make their own minds up, my wife at the time was Catholic, my children are all now atheists. I feel they made the obvious choice when its not rammed down their throats as young children!

Two wrongs don't make a right. I don't understand why you think that slicing bits from children's bodies is acceptable. Perhaps you can explain?
Some things shouldn't be left to the discretion of parents, too many of them are ignorant, gullible and/or superstitious. That is why we still have FGM..
