Check out the G-Tech.I find it very good.
Have a Miele - they range in price from £100 - £200. Am very happy with mine but it is quite heavy to get upstairs, but I am probably a lot older than you.
Keep hoping that it breaks down so that I can get a G-Tech like Danny.
One of the main reasons I got mine was that it is a lightweight(but powerful)cleaner.
I swear by Dysons
Hi Patrick
My wife bought me a G Tech - brilliant piece of kit !!
FBG40
Even better performer than G-tech (if you really want cordless) is the Bosch Athlet (according to Which?).
We have two corded Dysons (both Which? Best Buys) and wouldn't have anything else.

Happy for corded or cordless. Just want something that will leave the carpet clean as currently my Dyson picks up nothing, even after I have cleaned and serviced it. I am in no need for bells and whistles just a vacuum that does the job. Will look at Gtech and Bosch. Thank you
I bought a Shark upright some months ago & I'm very impressed with it. It comes apart to like a cylinder cleaner one so very handy for doing the stairs & hard to reach places. Bagless & washable filters. I had a Sebo before which are rated highly but the amount of dirt that came out after using the Shark the first time was staggering. Bought mine from Hughes
Perhaps the Dyson has a blockage. Cat toy is a likely culprit.
Danny, which model have you got?
I understand there a a few different ones.
