My husband has received an email from Paypal saying that there is unusual activity in his account. They give a date and the location, which is apparently near New York. They say his account will be limited unless he follows a link and confirms his details. This is the 3rd time he has received this. I presume it is a scam but would like to know what you think.

I too think it's a scam, but sadly I'm no expert, maybe someone else on here will be ....

Thank you Viv
Loads of Paypal scams doing the rounds.

If the email was not addressed to your husband by name then it will definitely be a scam, and should be ignored.
I've received that one twice, Ellie ..and I don't have a Paypal account...
Look at the address of the email sender, that usually tells you that it is a scam.
It sounds like a scam. If it is addressed to him Dear customer or nothing at all, it definitely is. If it is addressed to him by name and he is at all concerned he should log into paypal as he would normally. Under no circumstances use the link. Or telephone them if that is possible.
Most likely a scam but to be sure just check your paypal account by going through the official paypal website. Any problems will be noted on there.
Just dont click the link to get to your account.

Thanks for all your replies. The sender's address says [email protected] and it addresses him by name. I'll tell him to sign in his usual way and see what happens.
There are loads of Paypal scams doing the rounds.

Just go into http://www.hoax-slayer.com/ and note just how many scams are listed.

As I said earlier, if your husbands name was not shown on the email he received then it's yet another scam and he can ignore it.

I seem to get regular Paypal scams, they're just a nuisance.
elliemay, obviously you need to type Paypal into the box at the top of the http://www.hoax-slayer.com/ page.
Never follow the instruction to use a link sent. If confused contact the genuine company by typing in an address you know to be correct, and ask.
Good advice OG.

Thanks wiltsman and OG. Have looked at that site and there's no scam exactly like this one where a name is mentioned. Have read the email again and it gives a free phone number, checked it and it is Paypal's. Would it be likely that a scammer would quote Paypal's phone number? Will wait until my husband comes home and ask him to sign in the normal way.
scam..report to paypal
I get them too Ellie. Yes, total scam . I don't even have a paypal account. Just delete.
I would treat it as a scam.
forward to [email protected]
They need to know these scams, and if it isnt, which is highly unlikely, they will get back to you.
