I liked the Indie, if for no other reason than that its pictures editor had a greater understanding of what makes superb photojournalism than anyone else in the job did.

I'm afraid it is market forces. Many newspapers have come and gone. If the newspaper isn't popular enough then it closes.

However, rhe people who seem to be gloating at its demise seem to have misunderstood the newspaper. It was not, and never purported to be unbiased. It aimed at Governments, Labour as well as Conservative.

It was Independent of owners who were Lords or Labour party connected. However, when it was sold to a Russian oligarch, notions of non interfering owners with a political agenda became nonsense.

I thought it was a good product, but not enough other people did.
Independent = 30 yrs of publishing
Daily Mail= 130 years of publishing and STILL publising.
Someone got the formula correct it would appear! :-)
Retrocop,

Independent owned for 6 years by a Russian sympathiser.
Daily Mail owned for 60 years by a Nazis sympathiser.
No Nazis in 1896 Gromit.

"It was not, and never purported to be unbiased."

I worked at the Mirror group when we had The Bindie as we called it back then.....I knew a fair few of the journos and believe me they were always shouting it from the treetops about how "unbiased" they were...shame most of them were pinko lefties ...didnt really work
Great days in British journalism. Mikey!
jno.....yes indeed...days that we can be proud of !
Baz,
It surprises me not, that Mirror group hacks did not know the difference between Independent and unbiased. You were bean counting then, how many sales (and money) were lost then?
