Hmm.

Two Private companies want to merge. Genuine Capitalism, Free Enterprise and a British Company competing on the world stage...

And you have a problem with it and want intervention.
If one's government allows vital concerns to be in private hands then it is difficult to prevent it being sold to anyone, including, if regulations have been sufficiently relaxed, foreign interests. It's all part of globalisation and the freedom to move everything across borders with ease; in preference to protecting one's country's own interests and the interests of it's citizens. UK has been up for sale to the highest bidder for decades. Government power secondary to merchants'.

If you believe in capitalism, vote Tory, but think that companies shouldn't be allowed to follow the normal rules of capitalism.
It is vaguely amusing to see the the city bankers who flogged our water to the French, our Electricity to the Germans, our car and steel industry to the Indians, our rail networks to everybody, all our property to the Arabs, to suddenly start bleating now about their jobs now the LSE might go the way of the rest of our assets and go abroad.

There is a certain poetic justice that I cannot resist liking. Good luck with your JSA claim baz.
Maybe the Yanks will step in, baz ... will that make you any happier?

Septics perleasssse Bill!
I wouldn't worry, Mrs Merkels master plan is starting to unravel.

Dave.
From the Express link, "In a fresh blow to the EU, 53 per cent of the French voted in favour of holding a UK-style referendum on the country’s membership." Since when has a survey of voters been a vote?
Its not a vote corby, its saying they would like one and if 53% vote out then the French will/could leave as well.

Dave.
No, a majority of French voters surveyed said they wanted a vote and only a third said they would then vote to leave.
Is see where you are coming from. The LSE wont make a happeth of difference to London being the financial centre, however what it does do is feed into the dribble dribble of an EUSS take over.

As I have been saying for years, the Germans are achieving by stealth what they failed to do by two world wars.

As for Government intervention, this does happen in the Capitalist world, especially in cases of NAtional security or a monopoly.

How's you German Gromit BTW?

// what it does do is feed into the dribble dribble of an EUSS take over. //

Let's think back, Water, Gas, Electric, train services, car manufacturing used to be 100% British owned. Now thety are owned by French, German, Spanish and Italuan companies. Who sold them off? Why the same grasping greedy bankers who are now upset that their own industry might go the same way.

Karma.

And here's me thinking it was Thatcher and her posse!
I must get round to apologising one day.
