this is for a friend who swims but is having problems with the chlorine irritating a tender area. I've been looking online and i can find some specific creams for swimmers but they are very expensive. Does anyone here swim and use a cream they can recommend?

Metanium, maybe?
have you asked your local swimming club? Or the Channel Swimming Association, etc? I think long distant swimmers must have a product. Used to be a joke that they use axle grease.

I've been lookng on various swimming forums but can't seem to find the right sort of thing, i keep coming back to a product thats a tad on the pricey side.

Hadn't heard of metanium but she's tried sudocream, is it similar?
How about Vaseline?
Excellent suggestion by Cloverjo.

Sudocream wouldn't be waterproof.
Question Author
she says she's tried vaseline and its not worked
Lousy suggestion by Cloverjo.

thanks - derma s was the one i had found earlier, but i will pass on your suggestions

cheers all
If chlorine cant be reduced wear a wet suit
Derma s and Cavilon are about as good as it gets, these are almost certainly what a GP would prescribe. I use it regularly on the people I look after.

As I said, you only use a tiny amount of the cream, its one of those cases where "less is more"

errrm you get wet in a wet suit... plus its a public pool so i don't think she wants to take it that far.....

I think its going to be a case of experimenting with different barrier creams and see what works
Yes, I would recommend trying metanium. You can get it in Boots. It's supposed to be for nappy rash, and I first came across it when our children were babies, but it turns out it's excellent stuff for adult use too ...
