Hi - I have a friend who is going travelling soon for a year. I can't think of anything to get her as a leaving present. She already has all the practical things she needs, is limited on the clothes she's bringing...Does anyone have any suggestions on what i could get her? She already has brought a travel journal to write in. Thanks x

when my brotherwent travelling i got him a saint christopher necklace as he is the patron saint of travelling.
a beautiful journal and pencil/sharpener (assuming she is not going to blog it in the WWW cafes around the world.)

A cheap digital camera - downloadable in internet cafes also

A mooncup (only if you know her very well of course!)

a swiss army knife/multi tool

Hope this helps.

Hi Girlieflirt, The best present I got when I was going travelling was a beautiful travel journal. It had spaces for pictures and tickets and always cheers me up when Iread over it.

She already has a travel journal.

careful with knives - only if you've got check-in luggage, otherwise they'll be confiscated at airports.

Does she have those really lightweight towels, or travel clothes from Rohan http://www.rohan.co.uk/default.aspx and so on - if she's going to be living out of suitcases for a year, and carrying them herself, weight is important.

A little emergency kit with paracetamol, plasters sewing kit etc (only if she's got check in stuff though) or how about currency for somewhere she is planning to visit in about 6 months to treat herself to a meal or something.

Lush used do a thing called a wander wall, with loads of different smellies in it. A little block of soap and a little block of shampoo etc. It probably wouldn't last her a year though.

Sorry, that wasn't very helpful really, was it!

I like the St Christopher idea.

A little bag she can use for her passport and purse etc instead of the huge rucksack, and a letter for her to read on the plane. You can make up little puzzles for her to do, put a puzzle book and a magazine and some sweets with it and anyhting that you find amusing! And maybe a friendship bracelet from you - or a nice photo frame to put a pic in when she gets back.
Im travelling at the moment about to head to Asia - and besides my journal- other things I couldnt do without are- my ipod, camera, mobile, pictures of my family and friends. Do you know what is an amazing idea that a traveller friend of mine got given? Her friend made a photo album for her with pictures and little messages from all the people she cares about. Inexpensive and very thoughtful Im sure she would love it.
