Mp4 Converter

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have downloaded a recording and burned it to a disc. It plays on my Blu-ray dvd player but not on any other ordinary dvd player. The recording was on MP4 and most dvd burners do not convert this. Has anyone else had this trouble and can you recommend a good software program. Thank you.
