Probably this a fairly recent trend, but is there any reason (social
media) or otherwise for married ladies inserting their maiden names
between their first names & married ones?

I have a daughter who uses her first name, her maiden name (my name)
& then her married name.

A daughter-in- law meanwhile uses her first name, then her married
name (my surname) but no mention of her maiden name.

Obviously a personal choice but any explanation?

I've noticed it quite a lot on face book I think a lot of ladies do it so old school friends and the like who have lost contact with them can identify the easily. One person I've noticed usually identifies her self as **** Smith formerly Jones

My Wife uses her Maiden Name for her work. She carved out a career in the NHS and was known by it for a long time before we got married and she did want to lose that background.
Retaining the maiden name together with the accolade 'Miss' has for many a long year found favour in the entertainment industry.
it's been common in America for many years. More recent in the UK. But what used to be common here was giving children (boys or girls) their mother's maiden name as a middle name.
My mums maiden name is also a first name.
My name is double barrelled on FB, I'd never be found as my married name as it's quite common, whereas my maiden name is quite unusual, I'm the only one on FB. I don't double barrell on the real world though.
on social media it is so people who knew them before they changed it will know who they are, and so they can be searched.

in real life its probably often similar reasons - to keep their original identity known
My son has my maiden name as his middle name - Guy.
Women changed their name to their husbands name when they married, as they became their property. Everything they owned transferred to the husband. Now that the property grabbing has died out, why shouldn't women keep their maiden names after marriage?
If I had married the bloke everyone presumed I would, my name would have sounded ridiculous and I would have been tempted to insert my maiden name for this reason. My surname is relatively common, but I wouldn't want to change it just because I'd married someone. Why should I?
I don't want to change my name either much to my OHs disappointment.
It's common in some counties in Ireland, not so much here.

ummmm /My surname would sound stupid double barreled/

which gives us an entry into a genre of humour that can range from the very silly to the sublime...

Best-Lay for example
Many females continue to use their maiden name professionally because they have a lot of contacts who know that name and it would be impossible to notify everyone that they have changed their surname on marriage. Some also do so to keep their private life just that, private. On social media it is often so that friends/associates can identify them by whichever surname they know them. Finally, some women choose not to use their husbands surname. There is no legal requirement for them to do so.
