This point has plagued me for years. The Beeb had a funny names contest ( "I can tell you there are no less then seven Doris Morrises in the UK) and people rose to the occasion with names what if so and so had married such and such ... I got an honourable mench with if Christine McGourtey had married Krishnan Balamurty she would be Christine Balamurthy - McGurty

and someone else had written up to comment that if Jerry Hall had married Bryan Ferrry as planned before mick jagger she would have been Jerry Ferry Jagger. For years I have not been able to recall who the lucky fella was.
