Sorry bibblebub, I should have said so.
As for writesbad, I am male ~ what do I know about polishes! (LOL)

I am going with "A House of Mirth" for No 7, although the book title is "THE House of Mirth". The answer is surely a book title which must be fun to read. I am banking on an error on behalf pf the setter regarding letter count

As for 57, I am going to submit WHITE'S CHOCOLATE HOUSE (rather than that of LLOYD'S). Neither is 100% sound, but the original HOUSE served Chocolate not Coffee and an error in dates is more likely than an error in title.

That leaves 16 Could the US Open be held at this elevated location"? (9)
Could be Golf or Tennis ~ either way I have nothing to offer.
the one about the open ........clubhouse?
55 work house?
Hi Crofter, long time no see. A very happy and prosperous new year to you and yours. Xxx

granny grump. The problem with several of the clues is that they lack precise definition in that they are sometimes vague. It boils down to informed guesswork. For 55 I much prefer WORK HOUSE to PLAY HOUSE.

mallyh, CLUB HOUSE has strong connections with Golf but does not suggest (to me) an ELEVATED location. I think the jury is still out on this one!
