Dell Screen Problems

My mum has a Dell laptop, don't know the model but she had had it for over 5 years. She is having problems with the screen as the picture keeps breaking up and displaying all kinds of weird colours.
Sometimes if she moves the screen back and forwards for a bit, the problem is sorted. She uses the machine for hours every day just playing Solitaire and Mah Jong games. Is this just a case of the laptop getting old and worn out or could it be a connection problem between the screen and whatever controls the display?

It could be either the connecting ribbon or a more serious problem with the screen. If it's that old and really only used as you describe, the simplest and cheapest option is probably to replace it with a Hudl2 from Tesco, or a KIndle Fire, or some other cheap Android table.
