My wife is watching Oxford Street Revealed on BBC 2 at the moment, a reality TV show about Oxford Street in London.

In the program the police found an Afghan man in the area who was illegally in the UK.

He was taken to court and bailed TO APPEAR IN COURT THE NEXT DAY.

Of course he failed to turn up.

ARE WE STUPID?

Why not just hold him in jail till the next day. Of course he is not going to turn up.

No wonder we have a massive problem with illegal immigrants and fake asylum seekers when we are so lax and stupid with the way we treat them.

Unless we start to come down hard on some of these people we are always going to have a problem.

We are such a soft and trusting country, no wonder all the people in Calais will stay there for weeks or months to get here, it must be like some giant holiday camp once they get here.

We have a hotel here in Birmingham, The Paragon, where over 200 Asylum seekers (all men) are being put up.

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/more-200-asylum-seekers-homed-10515426

We have millions out of work, we have a huge debt problem, but we still manage to house (and probably feed) over 200 people in a hotel.

As I said, it must be like coming to a huge holiday camp when immigrants and asylum seekers get here.

No wonder as a country we are in a mess.

Lammy should get a job in MaccyD's hed feel at home there....

as has been said on here ad nauseum...any "deal" done will be just a temp blip as far as the eussr are concerned...they will do everything possible to keep us in....even they are now saying they "want us in"...well of course they do, they need our money and our headcount to dictate to and rule over...
Vote UKIP ! and NO in the referendum. You know it makes sense.
Lol
I wish I shared your confidence there will be a referendum.I see the original expected date for it has been put back because Cameron needs more time to negotiate his capitulation.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I worry about my little son's future in this country ....

Sadly those in a position to deal with Immigration do show signs of stupidity,
the rest of us have to live with their mistakes.
Negotiations?

A bit of a chat over a very agreeable dinner (Accompanied by wines from the EU's "secret" wine list). The PM has ensured he will only be slightly disappointed. He has asked for next to nothing and he will get precisely nothing (of any significance, anyway). There is no way on earth that the eastern European nations will agree to the UK preventing its taxpayers' cash being siphoned off by the eastern citizens and pumped into their economies. It's like turkey's voting for Christmas.

A better negotiating stance for the PM would be to say "The UK is leaving the EU on 1st January 2016. If the EU would like to negotiate a new treaty which may suit us I'll put it to my electorate by the end of the year to see if they fancy rejoining".

It might concentrate their minds (and stop them guzzling so much taxpayer funded vins les grands crus).
