My husband and I have booked a few days away in Prague at the beginning of January. Never been there before, it looks very interesting. Has anyone any tips, recommendations etc. We intend to use public transport to get around and have our transport from the airport already booked. Also I seem to be getting confusing info about the money, are Euros used there?

not euros its czech korunas ,lots to do and see ,many museums but best of all the KGB museum in the mala strana ,the guide is hillarious also very interesting .We just went out each day with not much of a plan and made it up ,if you want to get out of the city go to Kutna Hora the palace of bones stunning .We went in March this year and have been back twice more this year .
The currency is Czech Koruna - about 37 or 38 to the £.

The castle is a good day's visit.
wrap up warm: the average January temperature is minus 1. Eat at places in the back streets, they're cheaper and better (you don't have to go miles away, just not in the main tourist areas). Try the Mucha museum or the Cubist museum if you're interested in that sort of thing, but much of the pleasure is in just strolling around.

These are worth a look

And Kutna Hora is good.
Wear sheepskin boots, coats and hats. Drink hot wine in all the cafes. Go to lots of splendid concerts and operas. Go on a boat trip down the river, where the boat will be nice and warm and they may give you sticky cakes on the trip.
There might be a few interesting snippets here for places to visit, I did some research for another ABer.

Is it worth booking a sightseeing bus tour and/together with the boat, from UK?
Hotel Leonardo is central but on a side street and so is quiet. The Konvict has good food at non tourist prices. It's full of locals which is always a good sign.
I forgot. Prague is full of cobbles which are very hard on your feet and ankles. Wear very sturdy walking shoes/boots
Hradny castle

zillions of museums - the one at the end of a tramline and the musuem looks like an iced square cake - white and pink is an art museum and worth a visit also it is on the road that Heydrich was assassinated on

have a great time - you dont have to wander very far from the main Sq and Charles Bridge

KGB museum - was that the museum to communism _ admission free but we will take a bribe of x korunas - at the top of that squate they have the mmain science museum. Half way up the square is a famous art deco cafe
Most of the hotels have leaflets about the hop on/hop off buses which can include a boat trip. These buses are brilliant and quite cheap. We got on one the first morning at went all the way round the city on it deciding what we want to see, as I could not walk too far, and then the the afternoon it off at the stops we wanted to visit. We did the boat trip at night too see the city all lit up - wonderful! We went in May but it will be cold in January so as others have said wrap up warm. I'm sure you will love it, it's a great city.
Watch your belongings, especially going through doorways. We were caught up at the castle by the person in front "dropping" something, holding up the crush and later you're missing something, in our case a camcorder, from your bag. A similar thing was tried in Barcelona but we were wise to it, some scrote had a very sore wrist before he ran off.
