Hi can anyone help me with this please

I have a HP Photosmart 6510 printer which uses individual ink cartridges

The actual coloured inks have all just about ran out, but as I only use the black ink to print I just bought a new HP blank ink yesterday fitted it tonight as I urgently need to print something off.

But, nothing is printing off all I'm getting is a blank page..?

(I am pressing 'print' and then into 'properties' to choose 'blank ink only')

Does it mean that I need to replace ALL the cartridges please?

Thank you
Any help would be appreciated please!

yes..HP printers will not print unless ALL cartridges are good !
Most (all?) printers won't print unless all inks are available. The usual reason given is that it can damage the printhead (although I don't actually understand why!).

Some printers mightallow you to print with only a black cartridge by going into 'Properties', when selecting 'Print', and choosing 'grayscale printing' (with that horrid US spelling!).

If time allows, I can recommend this supplier, who'll sell you a full set of 56 cartridges for £11.22:
http://www.inkredible.co.uk/hp-photosmart-6510-e-all-in-one-ink-cartridges
(If you order this evening, they should be with you on Saturday).

Otherwise, given that places like Staples and PC World are about to close, you'll either have to phone around your local supermarkets to see if they stock the cartridges you require or beg for the use of a friend's or neighbour's printer.
Silly question I'm sure but did you remember to peel off the protective strip from the cartridge?
^^^I'm not sure how '4' became '56' there!

Perhaps it's got something to do with 4 (or should that be 56?) cats trying to play on my desk while I'm typing ;-)

Thank you all for your speedy replies and help!

Yes I've gone in to 'properties' and chosen 'black ink only' but still nothing, just a blank page.

And yes, lol, I took the cartridge back out just to see if I'd left any seal on it by mistake, lol, but it was ok.

Thanks for the tip on the ink supplier Buenchico, I will look into it for the future

(Thing is I never opt to use the coloured inks, I opt to use just the black, but the levels in the coloured still flippin run down!

Anywaaaay, thanks again :) at least I now know what's up, and I will nip out to the shops (I've found Wilkinsons to be the cheapest) and get a full pack tomorrow.

lol, I must admit I did think that was rather a good buy! - 56 inks for £11.22 -bargain!
Believe it or not black ink printing does not just use the black ink but all the colours.
Try printing in "Black and White" from your printing menu...the printer should then stop trying to use the now-defunct colour cartridges.
Did you carry out a print alignment exercise?

Thanks again for your other replies, I've only just seen them

Yeh, I always do print in 'black & white' to try and save on wasting the colours.

Well, all iseems to be ok now, I bought a 4 pack of inks from Wilkos - £19, just fitted them, I've just done a test print and it looks like I'm up and running again, thank gawd! lol

So huge thanks again to everyone who took the time to answer, I appreciate it loads :) xx
