i have a pk 50 xl from 1987 and there is one screw lid that i take off to put the petrol mix in and then next to it there is another plastic thing that has two wires coming out of it. and when you take it out it is like a measuring device of some description with a "stop" limit marked on it.

up until now i have been doing my 2 stroke mix by hand. Could this be where i put my oil for an automatic mix?

any info much appreciated

Try vespa owners club, just Google it, the link did not work!
Sound like a fuel level transmitter, does that model have a fuel gauge on the speedo, if yes then that is probably what you are looking at.
yeah mate, thats the fuel level sensor, thats what the wires are routed to.
