Based on what ABers frequently say motivates people to join ISIS (one reason only, repeated often), I think most of you will disagree with most of what they extracted from the prisoner(s) interviewed.
Am I right in thinking that or have I misread some of you?
If nothing else, the interview technique is novel and interesting but it appears they've given up much hope of the kind of "hearts and minds" changes they hoped for, among captive fighters, at least. The similarity of personality profile from prisoner to prisoner is concerning. If you are remotely 'diverse', there, you would stick out like a sore thumb and it's no wonder they are so intolerant of other lifestyles, across the world. Nobody accepts their own way of life is wrong, so it is no wonder they want to impose their way of life on the rest of the world.
Married, two kids, 6th to 8th grade education, manual labour, religious rituals.

To me very interesting article, especially as I rather suspected a substantial element of the "troops" to be so minded. However, I must admit I thought a perverted religious concept and pride was the stronger element in recruitment but, that every single interviewed sample disproved that exceeded my belief by a wide margin. To me very interesting article, especially as I rather suspected a substantial element of the "troops" to be so minded. However, I must admit I thought a perverted religious concept and pride was the stronger element in recruitment but, that every single interviewed sample disproved that exceeded my belief by a wide margin. So, the invasion of Iraq by the USA and the UK was the catalyst, that at least had already seemed clear to me but not this way.

Thanks. The media, in the past, tells us they spend all day learning the recite the Koran by heart. Not much opportunity to learn history beyond family memory about which relatives got killed and by whom, or subjects about the wider world.
Depressingly, I think this is exactly why our own went so willingly to the trenches, in WWI. Their worldview was blinkered by the limited education on offer, at the time. The church only wanted them to be literate enough to read the Bible for themselves.
