The Madrid restaurant scene has all the usual national chains and fast food joints, for those looking for traditional English cuisine.  But part of the fun of travelling is sampling the local cuisine, so with that in mind, why not branch out and give a few local Madrid restaurants a sample.

We all know food is the best way to a man’s heart, but this is a man free zone so girls so order what you want. El Amparo’s restaurant has a well deserved reputation of being one of Madrid’s top gourmet eateries. Its traditional Basque recipes with nouvelle cuisine, coupled with a cosy couch-house setting is the perfect choice to spoil yourself.

If you’re looking for more of a trendy restaurant then the Champagneria Gala might be just the place. A fashionable dining experience with Spanish sparkling wines, which give the ideal accompaniment to the food. As with many well renowned restaurants it is best to book ahead to ensure a table on the canopied garden patio, a perfect place for a girls get together.

Whatever your inclination, sit at the bar and relax with a cold beer, a glass of pinot noir, or a classic martini, Madrid provides the perfect setting to indulge your desires. The city has so much to bestow upon its visitors from taking an open-top-bus or walking tour around the city, to visiting one of the many first-class museums such as the Prado Museum, the Thyssen Museum of the Reina Sofia.

Visitors can stroll through the old centre (Madrid de los Austrias) or along the tree-lined Paseo del Prado for an escape from the frenzied streets of stumble on other highlights such as the Palacio Real, a shrine to Rococo extravagance, and the Plaza Mayor, which both embrace an enormous amount of history.

Madrid is not just a cultural destination. It is also a lively metropolis with many pubs, cafes, bars and nightclubs open late into the night. With so much to offer for girls looking for a Spanish getaway who want to sample international flavours and delve into the stylish sophisticated world, it’s easy to see if Madrid were a woman, she’d be a cross between Penélope Cruz, beautiful and quintessentially Spanish and Madonna, sassy, and getting better with age.
