Our holiday to Egypt this week (Nile cruise + 3 days in Cairo) was cancelled. Assuming that the situation there returns to normal in the next few months, we will probably re-book for November 2011 or February 2012. Is one of those periods preferable to the other?

Not really. You might want to check out when Ramadan is though.

It's 01/08 to 30-08 so November would be OK. Thanks again.
Just check the date of eid ul-adha and also Islamic new year - I think these will be in November. They are only a day or so each butmight affect opening of sites, shops etc.
I went in November last year on that itinerary, and had a really good time. Weather very pleasant, and sights were fabulous. Hope the situation settles down soon.

A shame.

You are missing the few remaining 'Wonders of the World', the Nile Cruises are a superb experience and the Red Sea diving excellent.

Not having those experiences before your limited time on the planet expires is a shame.
