I am taking the train so somewhere near to trainstation/metro. I hate big faceless hotels rather give my money to a family run place.

Hi D_James I'm from Newcastle, do you need the City Centre?
You won't find a family-run place in the town centre (i.e. Central Station / Monument).

Instead, I'd suggest you decide how far out of town you're prepared to travel and then look for a b+b...

Why not go for somewhere on the coast, like Whitley Bay?

or The Derwent Crossing..,very local

I have stayed near the railway station before Bobbisox, Jurys/Copthorne? I want something more "personal" to the guest.
yep I know what you mean D_James perhaps Mark is right with the coast, eg Culllercoates, it's on a Metro link and would take about 20 mins to CCentre + you have the added coastal views
Bobbi ♥
Just don't, whatever you do, go South of the river...

<shudders>
Ha -Ha I second that...

I am on "Late Rooms" right now. Thank you both.

Money's no object.
In which case you'll be extremely welcome in Whitley Bay or Cullercoats...

However, if you're a Dire Straits fan, don't try looking for the Spanish City - it's not there any more... :-(

Hot dog, jumping frog, Albuquerque, eh Bobbi...? ;-)
Oh well...ermmm the Gateshead Hylton...on the Tyne ♥
Try the Niche Hotel on Grey Street. Small with modern quirky rooms and dead centre, close to station and restaurants. I liked it and would return.
