who is right?

My partner thinks you can move to australia without a profession if you are a millionaire and can live off your own means. I didnt think you could emigrate there without a job/trade no matter how rich you are. I thought they were very strict. Who is right?

I'd say if you could prove that you would never be a drain on the state you could probably live in any country you liked.

you would think so, i just thought australia were strict with the amount of immigrants (unlike our country)
How much money you have is (to an extent) irrelevant.
It's the profession you are that counts.If you are on Australia's list of wanted professions then you are fine.
If not,then you are not.
If you are not intending to work,and have your own means then I think you might be OK.
However,it;s not easy,and there are lots of requirements if you want to work.
Mr V's answer isn't wholly true. Up until September 2007 'capital investment' was a qualifying factor for immigration into Australia. (i.e. simply having money to invest, rather than any specific skills, would count).

I was under the impression that the 'capital investment scheme' had gone for good but this link suggests that it was recommenced about a year ago:
