Two years ago my other half and I went to Cuba for the third time. He took a bottle of TCP in his case for mosquito bites and when we were coming home they called us to security in the airport as the dogs had shown an interest in our case. We were taken to a small room and they searched our case. They obviously found no drugs. We are not young. We are in our 50s and do not look like drug smugglars! They said that the dogs had either picked up the smell of the TCP or could smell our dog on the case. My other half is now convinced that we are on a database in Cuba and will not go back there. Cuba is my favourite place to holiday and I think he is being unreasonable. I would be grateful for all opinions!

>and do not look like drug smugglars!

So what do drug smugglers look like?

Do they have a big sign on their head saying "drug smuggler"?

Take it how you want to mate! That is not my question that is yours!
I can see how this would put you in a quandry.
You obviously don't want to fly all the way to Cuba only to be rejected.
I would put your question to the Cuban Embassy in London, here:~

Address: 167 Hight Holborn. London WC1V 6PA, UK

Telephone: 0207 240-2488

E-mail: [email protected]

Although as you do appear to have been charged with anything I (personally) think you should be fine,BUT I understand that you will want confirmation of this before you go.
I also think that I would email them rather than phone,as you might get a better response to an email.
Sorry,that should read:~
Although as you do NOT appear to have been charged with anything
The airport we landed at on the caios was the worst we have been to for the level of security and sniffer dogs. one bloke who was on our plane (and actually yes he did look the part) was taken away by the police. He was from manchester and was due to stay in our hotel but he was to marry a local girl and had been there a few times in a few months and that was flagged up he tols us at the hotel later. They gave him a real grilling about the paperwork he had with him which was to do with the marriage and he felt quite threatened. That's not to be negative about your question at all, I think it is one of the safest places to fly into to be honest and one of the most secure.

Thank you for your responses. We were not charged with anything, and they did actually apologise, but it was very frightening. I agreee that the Cayos are one of the safest places in the world and one of the most beauiful. My other half has visions of ending up in prison in Havannah! I dont see how that could possibly happen, but as you say they do check your details thoroughly. On entering the Cayos on our third visit, they asked me about the purpose of my visit, and about my job - Director of a Bank.Thank you for the suggestion of contacting the Embassy. I will certainly do this. Thanks again.
Have a great holiday in Cuba, I am SURE everything will be OK.

Thank you Veritas. I('m sure I remember you on here from years ago!)
I am a bit worried now. I mailed the Embassy and they want our passport numbers and DOBS. Well I suppose it wont harm. Its better to check now than when we get there.

Will keep you posted.
I shouldn't worry too much about giving them your Passport Nos and DOB,they probably couldn't trace your information without it.
I am sure you will get a positive result, and then you will have no worries.
Pdavies, as Mr. V said, I don't think there's anything to worry about. Perhaps they want to do a background check on you both. Or red-flag your name in a good way, as in not to give you a hassle at the airport. I imagine you both live decent lives... don't do drugs, launder money, or do anything illegal. You should have nothing to worry about. Enjoy your trip!
