Would like to go to Lake Garda this year but have no idea which is the best part. Any recommendations - we like it quiet but would also like to be able to visit other areas preferably by boat.

Garda is beautiful (the lake) and whichever resort you go to has most ferry connections and has easier access to other towns (Verona,Venice etc). but is not noisy .Riva in the north is nice but can be a bit windy,Malchesni is lovely but a little too quiet for my tastes but wherever you stay i`m sure you will love it. Enjoy

We went a couple of years ago and stayed in Tomboli?? something like that! We didn't have a good time because it rained mostly and in a place like Lake Garda the sun is essential, because there's nothing much to do - except walk!! We wouldn't go again! As for going to Venice by coach, it takes hours!
You cannot fail to enjoy any part of Lake Garda. I went in 2008 and stayed in Moderno Toscolano on the western side. The resport of Moderno is where you catch the ferry boat. However, Limone sul Garda further north on the same side of the lake is a beautiful little resort which I fell in love with. Not too commercial and I would say not too noisy, but I only went on a visit there. The ferry boat runs across from Limone to Macesine on the other side. Now that is also a pretty little harbour town with lots to see and lovely little restaurants and gift shops. I do hope you have a lovely time on the Lago di Garda.
