I wish to take some cheap smoke detectors abroad as gifts for friends in Cuba. I am aware of the prohibition on radioactive material on aircraft, but wondered if the microscopic radioactive source in a smoke detector would still be banned? I do not want my luggage ripped apart if such items are banned completely.
