My UK passport expires in March 2009. I have arranged to spend a weekend in France in November this year. Should I renew my passport before then or shall I still be able to travel using the existing one?

your passport is good for other EU states until the day it expires.

oh, hang on, I misread that. It has expired already. No, you'll need a new one.

Your title and question are not the same.

If the passport is valid when you visit France, then that's fine - there is no minimum validity requirement

If it's expired, or will expire before you go, you need a new one.

If you get a new one this month you'll avoid a fees hike. The unexpired validity on your old passport will be transferred to the new one. Max 9 months.

Sorry, but you missed the chance to renew before the fee increase. The new fees were applied from last Thursday, 3rd Sep.
