We are hoping to join the Trans Mongolian trainfrom Moscow to Beijing in January 2010 and would love to hear from anyone who has booked and done this trip. Did you use a company to get the Russian. Mongolian and Chinese visas or did you get them yourself? Any special things to take? Any tips to make it a special trip.

The Russian Embassy, in London, doesn't accept visa applications directly. Up until fairly recently you could submit your application via any one of a small number of approved agents. The embassy has now outsourced their visa application process to VF Services (UK) Ltd, so that's where you now need to submit your application to:

You can apply online for your Mongolian visa: ption=com_content&task=view&id=73&Itemid=1&lan g=mn

China requires visa applicants to make, and to attend, an appointment at their embassy in London: visa/aa/t514391.htm
