Car hire after driving ban

Does anyone know a car hire company that will allow a rental to someone after a driving ban for too many speeding points? Some won't until after 5 years, some say a valid licence is required (in their T&Cs) and some say a valid licence but they would want to know what convictions there have been. The licence is now clear but the ban was in 2006.

We're in the UK but it would be for European or USA hires.
