Excelsior Hotel, New York

Has anybody any experiences/opinions for this hotel on W74th Street in New York? It's very near Central Park and I am tempted to book into it for a few days next month. Trouble is - who knows what these places are really like unless through 1st hand experience? It sounds nice and it's affordable - so if anyone has any opinions they'd like to share, I'd be grateful. Thanks
