I visited the archeological site in Malia although I did not stay there. Fascinating, if that sort of thing appeals to you.
i was there 2 years ago and it was excellent. V busy nightlife, similar to what faliraki was like before its fall from grace. I would highly recommend it if you want a mad clubbing holiday
Or you've got Laganas in Zante which is supposed to be the next big thing. Not a dump either, got good sites. Try www.justzante.co.uk for a taster. I've heard Malia is an absolute dump and because of that I've never been. Kos town is good, nice and lively too. Or Ibiza if you've got the time to save up! Even if you aren't into the housey type of music. I enjoyed it and I'm more into R&B.
I met the love of my life in Malia in 1999. Great nightlife, standard Greek island quality (ie a bit lower quality than Spain but better than Turkey) and a few nice things to do. I wouldn't say there is anything to really differentiate it from the other Greek isalnds though. What about Ayia Napa?
Hi there - I went two years ago (first week in October). Most clubs etc. were shut and there was SO quiet. If your 20, your better of going in the Summer, but if your in your 30's and look romantic holidays with your significant other, this is the perfect time. The weather was hot which surprised me as I thought it would have cooled down a little (like other Greek islands) but Crete is warmer. They have an old village which is beautiful with winding cobble streets and its so romantic eating by candlelight. The only 'noise' we did experience was one evening when a group of club 20-30 turned up (about 10 of them) and starting dancing on the tables which lasted for about 30 minutes and we never saw them again after. I would recommend this wholeheartedly. This is the best 'Greek' holiday we've ever had. I will point out one thing though - CHECK YOUR FOOD BILL - the canny monkeys add about 3-8 on each bill on purpose as they expect us young-uns to not notice (my husband always checks). This happens at EVERY restaurant so be carefull! (p.s - it's not for the bread you get on the table either as you do pay for this whether you want it or not - about 1.50).
