Hi everyone - I am going to New York on Wednesday and will be going to see a show on Broadway on the Friday night. Does anyone know do they dress up or down in New York for the theatre. I don't want to go dressed like a diva where smart casual is called for!!!! Many thanks.

I've been a couple of times and there was a real mix of people (just like the theatre in London really). There were a few dressed-up people, but also lots of scruffy students and tourists. Smart casual would be fine IMO.
I would say dress down. When I went a year ago everyone just wore jeans and casual clothes, as you would if you were going to the cinema at home (we were a wee bit more dressed as were going out for a few drinks afterwards!)
I lived in NYC until recently and went to a few shows on Broadway.

Jeans & trainers, smart casual, dress up, do what ever you want to do. No one will bat an eyelid.

Thanks everyone, especially liked your answer Jonno - I fancy getting dressed up, don't often get the chance! x

Good for you Bertie... I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Now just find a good meal through www.menupages.com, and book it in advance (if needs be) through www.opentable.com, and you're all set. Hope that helps.

Have fun!
