I can't walk a long way, where can I drive and maybe stay (campervan) for a day out of Nelson, are parts easily accessable by road and what are the best places to head for? Is the track=road from Queenstown by the lake a drivable route through to Milford Sound or is the only road via Te Anau and back? It's hard to tell on the map!

pretty sure the Te Anau road via the Homer tunnel is the only drivable route.

Have you thought of touring the wine country, or taking a sightseeing cruise out of Picton?

Thanks thats what I thought. I have thought of other options but my son visited Abel Tasmin and thought it was so beautiful he wants me to see it too (he got me the ticket!)
This company runs a water taxi service allowing you to visit some of the nicest beaches in the park.

if you don't walk all that well, the Tasman walk may not be the thing for you. I walked on it for about 4 hours a few years ago; it's not at all arduous, not a trek, but all the same I don't walk terribly well either, and I found it fairly hard going. A younger and fitter son may well find it easier! But the water taxi idea sounds like a good one.
PS: your son is right, though, it is beautiful.

Thanks, I like the water taxi idea, we are gonna have to do a lot of driving so a break would be good.
