There is a Moscow in Ayrshire but which came first, this one or the Russian capital ? Or was it some other Moscow ?

I think they are totally unconnected. I believe the Ayrshire one is pronounced MOSS - COW as opposed toi the capital MOSS-CO. I also think there used to be a farm locally with the same name and thats how the small village derived its name
You also need to remember that the Russian capitol is actually Moskva. Moscow is an anglicisation of it.
