I was just wondering (in the middle of the night as you do) if Scotland does gain independence from Britain will Scots recipients of any honours still be permitted to use them?

Don't know.
Is Australia independent from Britain?
Has any Ozzie been a recipient of any of these honours?
Hmm, definitely a middle of the night thought.
Errm, well, yes and no 1ozzy, Rolf Harris already stripped of his CBE in 2015 ...
Sir Donald Bradman, no longer with us. But not Dame Kiri - often given Australian status in error, Dame Nelly Melba.

Not that many still living on this link, though hardly surprising when you consider the dates they were awarded:

I don't think we would care - we don't want to get catty about it - that's the EU's schtick.
yes but they will have to precede each title with Mc.
Always thought honours were a load of tosh. Who cares about folk who are given letters after their names for doing something they were probably well paid for.
Mc 'n' tosh Maggie? :-)
I imagine so although terms of use might change. Foreign nationals are awarded honours but I seem to remember something about Irishman Bob Geldof's knighthood not being quite the same. I can't remember what the difference is though.

I wonder how many who sneer at them would turn one down?
Maybe the editor will run a poll to find out.
Non-Commonwealth citizens can be awarded UK honours but they cannot use the post-nominal letters.
There are many people who have turned down honours. See here:

Naomi, Sir Bob Geldof can't sit in the House of Lords. The title is honorary.
I'm aware that some have refused them, clarion, and some have sent them back, but I think many who criticise them, given the opportunity, would grab them with both hands. John Prescott springs to mind.
a knighthood isn't a qualification for the Lords - you need a peerage for that.
Thanks danny, I remembered something about it - I just couldn't remember what it was.
Now I think about it, I think dave's right.
Perhaps park, apply the handbrake and begin again. :-P
Better to just park and be done with it. ;o)
that might depend whether the Scottish head of state (under their new constitution) is his or her Maj, or President Sturgeon.
