I'll need to charge my laptop and phone while I'm on holiday in Sri Lanka, so what type of electrical sockets do they use please.

The ones for Asia could be the same as Australia. Boots or Smiths will have them and they all say which country they are for. You can also get them at the airport
Apparently Sri Lanka, being a former UK possession, is a rare example of the UK socket/plug being in use. There is another type also in use and that is rather like the now discontinued round pin plug from the UK. You may find it difficult to get a suitable adapter for the latter in the UK with airport shops being shockingly expensive if indeed they have any. Seeing as they seem to use the current standard UK type I would imagine your best option would be to buy one in Sri Lanka if you find you need it.
we decided on a round pin adapter from Amazon and had no problem. If youre stuck im sure the hotel could lend something. I do recommend your own extension lead with a circuit breaker too..just in case of power outages
