Wanting to book a holiday this week, to go away in October. Mr M is waiting to have a minor op which he should have within the next 3 months. If I book the hol but his op is close to our departure date which would mean he couldn’t go, would travel insurance cover postponement costs??

you'd have to read the small print, but probably not.
The insurance company might say, if you had to postpone, that you knew about the risk, therefore they wouldn't pay out. Travel insurance usually covers unexpected risks, such as accidents.
You can only check with insurance company before you take out a policy, but I think it's unlikely you will get covered.
Go online and do a trail quote. See what questions they ask see if you’d be accepted.
The operation will not be covered as it is already known to be necessary. Its unfortunate, but you're best to wait until the spring for your holiday as these minor ops are so often postponed. If your expecting a date for it within the next three months, it feels very close to October to me.
