I’m going to Italy tomorrow. I’ve hired a car and just realised when printing the car hire voucher that it says only credit cards accepted when paying the deposit. I don’t have a credit card. Has anyone ever had this issue or used Alamo before and found a way of still hiring the vehicle using a debit card instead?

We used a different car hire company and also didn't have a CC. We had to pay a ridiculous amount on our debit card. It was refunded 5 days after we returned the car.

When are you going? You might have time to apply for a 0% CC. You can apply on-line.

Only in the USA. And it was about 10 yeras ago. I got there and didn't have a credit card. They allowed me to leave a deposit of $50. And I'd done that before with Dollar Car Rental. As ummm says, if you've got enough time, you can apply online. Only takes a few days.
I've only just realised Mxfan is going tomorrow.
Clarion - I think they've changed the rules. We had to pay over 1k to hire a car on a Debit Card + the cost of the car hire. This was in Ireland, goodness knows what someone would do if they didn't have a spare grand in the bank. Nothing is in walking distance.
oops!
Actually, car rental is the only reason I now have a credit card. In case I hire a car abroad, which is highly unlikely as I'm not fond of foreign holidays. I use the card once per year, just to keep it active.
It was the reason we applied for one. We use it for holidays, appliances and car hire (not holiday spending money, just for the protection)
