Spring Bank Holidays

Isn't it about time to rationalise all these spring bank holidays in quick succession? We've only just had Easter, next Monday is a BH, to be followed 3 weeks later by another one. A good start would be to fix the so-called "Easter" one to mid-March - given that most people in this country aren't practising Christians it would make sense, especially as "Easter Monday" has no religious significance that I'm aware of.

Definitely not move Easter, it is a religious festival recognised by many. Late May also was once Whitsuntide. Why not pick on removing (or moving) the labourite May Day holiday if you think there are too many?

Prudie - the Easter Monday BH has nothing to do with religion so why not move it to spread the BHs out more especially as, in this mainly non-Christian country, the fluctuating date of Easter is a nonsense to non-Christians.

I've suggested many times before that we should abolish all public holidays without, of course, reducing employees' total holiday entitlement.

I'm sure that many people would be happy to lose out on the two Easter bank holidays, together with the two in May and the one in August, if they could then have a full week off at another time.

It moves every year! Which is utterly ridiculous. Easter Sunday should be fixed at (say) the first Sunday in April. Why it should be tied to the movement of the moon is simply daft.

Workers in the UK enjoy 8 Public/Bank holidays. This year we will have had half of them in 38 days. There will be three more in eight days over Christmas/New Year. It is quite absurd to have them so unevenly distributed in this way.

Off topic a bit but I was fascinated to learn that St George's day was 29th this year, not 23rd, because of the late Easter!

I should probably have used the word 'move' as per don't move Easter to a fixed date.
On behalf us us who have full time Monday to Friday jobs the last thing I'd want is all the bank hols lumped to a week's leave. I can't be the only one who finds it hard to take leave when others aren't without feeling guilty - an enforced Bank Holiday that no-one can touch is such a blessing.
